Dear Reader,

Creative art will always fail itself in the hands of sacred gatekeepers. Believe it or not, this breakdown of artistic structure is a necessity, because out of this inevitable collapse comes something we as lovers of art cannot even begin to imagine in terms of creative production. I would like to think this breakdown is where the possibility of art begins. Tidal Basin Review wants to help create space for the possibility. Each one of us as editors are practicing artist in our own right and, to us, the most prevalent issue concerning literature and art is rubric making. We are looking to instigate the fissures, to creak the boundaries formed by the dominant narratives instilled upon art. The lack of diverse voices and creative thinkers in the physical and virtual spaces of the artistic world renders a damaging critique on the semantics of diversity and multiculturalism. It seems as if these etymologies are lost in a narcissistic pathology. We want to truly bring you a journal that is concerned with innovation, craft, and diversity as its mainstays. As artist we know there are too many talented people in this world to not have a diverse table of contents. It will be Tidal Basin Review's main objective to ensure a wide range of eclectic voices and ethnicities in our publications while upholding the highest of standards.

As readers, please consider this journal a reaction to what we editors were/are seeing in the landscapes that claim diversity, yet one look into the vault of some archives provides a different picture semantically through the presentation of the work. But even more than this, Tidal Basin Review wants to be on the cutting edge of a new way we look at publication and the promotion of artist and artworks. In the upcoming years we will provide a physical and virtual space that is friendly and accommodating to the artist. This place will be an art haven and supporter monetarily in terms of ensuring that there is a place where artist can come and showcase their craft and feel appreciated. This is not about the commodification of art, but more about the appreciation. We ask that you give us a chance, follow our progress and what we bring to the artistic landscape of the written, of the sound and of the visual.

Respectfully Here to Change the Way We Think,

Randall Horton,

Editor-in-Chief
